Dear Teachers of South Huntington,
In 1993, the South Huntington Educational Foundation (SHEF) was established to provide students and
staff with resources not included in the regular school budget. Over the past fifteen years, SHEF
contributed more than $400,000 for this purpose. No doubt, examples of these are familiar to many of you.
They include Starlab (a portable planetarium), elementary classroom science kits, AlphaSmarts and
SmartBoards distributed among all schools, and a Marine Biology Lab, professional dance studio, and video
projection system at Walt Whitman. Beyond this, SHEF also funded more than seventy mini-grants for
teachers, enabling them to pursue creative classroom projects.
SHEF financed all of these through a variety of fundraisers such as the Annual Golf Outing, Family Fun
Days, Children's Theatre Productions, and through voluntary payroll deductions.
This past year, SHEF announced its most ambitious project to date: a state-of-the-art TV production
studio at Walt Whitman High School. We ask your help in reaching this and all future goals by joining in the
payroll deduction plan, which has been in effect for the past several years. Payroll deductions can be of
any amount you desire. They are tax deductible and are assessed once a month. In return, you will
receive a SHEF Wildcat Paw Magnet that can be affixed to your car as a public display of your support.
In advance, we thank you for your consideration and we truly appreciate all you have done for South
Huntington in the past.
Sincerely,
Charles T. Ciravolo, Chairperson South Huntington Educational Foundation
